Becoming a pediatrician is not an easy road to take. After graduating from high school, there is about eleven more years of school that have to be completed. The article titled “Pediatrician Job Description”, states that “formal education and training requirements for physicians are among the most demanding of any occupation”(1). This education includes four years of undergraduate school, four years of medical school, and three to eight years of internship. In all these years of education, there are certain things that have to be studied. As it is stated on the article titled “Pediatricians, General”, the knowledge of a pediatrician should include “medicine and dentistry, therapy and counseling, English language, biology, psychology, and customer service”(1). Pediatricians need to be able to know everything about the patient, not only one specific subject, but everything going on with them.
Part of the eleven years of education and training is internship. As stated in the article “The Pediatrician”,“following graduation from medical school, primary care pediatricians complete three years of education in any accredited pediatric residency program”(1). In this training you will deal with the care of the infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. It also states that “following the pediatric residency, the pediatrician is eligible for board certification by the American Board of Pediatrics with successful completion of a comprehensive written examination. Recertification is required every seven years”(1). With this career, there will always be continuing education. As technology advances, there will be training that doctors will have to go through to learn and keep up with up to date materials. It is important that doctors are up to date on everything being used around them.
